Helen Smith was born and lives in Genadendal and always had a creative streak.

As an unemployed single parent, she was afforded the opportunity to enroll for hand-weaving training in 2010. This allowed her creativity to flourish and she started creating beautiful bespoke hand-woven pieces for local and international tourists.

Not long after this, she started working with The Kraal Gallery, creating her own designs and manufacturing commissioned pieces for them.
Helen parted ways with The Kraal Gallery and started Protea Hand Weavers. She was initially based in Greyton, until she decided to work from home.

Helen sources 100% cotton T-shirt fabric to create her unique bathroom carpets, place mats, baskets, handbags and wall hangings and is often requested to create customised pieces for clients.

Should you wish to own a beautifully hand crafted creation by Helen, she can be contacted on 084 909 5297.

Helen also showcases her products every Saturday from 09h00 – 12h00 at the Greyton Market.
